Edit: Looked at one of my melee guys, some other things that help are Blitz rank 2 increases damage based on how far away you are, and Bloody Mess gives +15% damage.

WebFudgemuppet does a thing on rooted and I'm pretty sure part of it is stacking with blitz. Also you only have to stop for a split second for rooted to kick in.
